BWTUC campaigning on health and safety in Wandsworth

14/10/2009

BWTUC are at the forefront of campaigning for the Health and Safety of workers.

Recently the Trades Council revealed the shocking death of a local worker after he was crushed to death by falling tables whilst at work on Garratt Lane in Earlsfield.

Rayners, the local family run company where the man worked have tried to keep the incident under wraps, but we have ensured that the death has been revealed to the public.

BWTUC will now be campaigning to ensure that Rayners are brought to justice.

Inside information on the investigation has revealed that the workers death was preventable and that the container the worker was using to transport goods was not fit for purpose. The use of these containers has been prohibited by the council. But this is not enough.

BWTUC are now carrying out extensive research to establish if this was an isolated incident or whether the containers used (known as Caddies) pose a potential health and safety hazard to workers elsewhere.

If research shows that caddies pose a real problem we will be campaiging to ensure their use is made safer and that workplace deaths are prevented.
